A New Beginning: 30 Years of Preserving Irish Soda Bread

Over the past 30+ years, this site has lived on many hosts—most recently Squarespace for the last 12 years. With their rates rising to $200 a year, it was time to move.

While sodabread.info served us well as our working domain, we are officially transitioning to SodaBreadSociety.com. All the backend switches have been flipped, and now we wait for search engines to update their indexes and point years of incoming links toward our new home. Rebuilding the entire archive from scratch has taken time, but I hope you enjoy the refreshed look and feel.

When I first started this quest, very few websites promoted the traditional four-ingredient recipe—flour, salt, baking soda, and buttermilk. Almost everything online was a rich tea cake filled with raisins. For years, sodabread.info sat at the top of page one for "traditional Irish Soda Bread." Today, I'm happy to see so many creators on social media championing the simple 4-ingredient tradition, even if it makes finding our new page in search results a bit trickier!

Having let the previous site simmer for a decade while YouTube cooks took over the kitchen, the new SodaBreadSociety.com will expand its horizon. We'll be diving deeper into other traditional Irish foods based on original recipes for festivals, and this blog will feature occasional thoughts on baking, history, and Irish culture.

Welcome to our new digital home—30 years in the making. Please explore, and feel free to reach out with comments or memories at SodaBreadSociety@gmail.com.

(And yes, the book is still in progress!)
